Shane Beamer is learning a harsh lesson as to how fickle life in the SEC can be. In 2024, the Gamecocks were crowing. South Carolina narrowly missed the playoff with a 9-3 mark that probably should have been 10-2 if not for some highly questionable officiating in their 36-33 loss to LSU.
Last year resulted in a 4-8 faceplant despite some talented players. Said talented players (QB LaNorris Sellers, edge rusher Dylan Stewart and wide receiver Nyck Harbor) returned to right the ship in 2026.
Uh oh. Like most SEC teams, the expanded 9-team conference schedule is rough. South Carolina had 3 “manageable” conference games of the 9. At home, they blew a 16-0 lead against Mississippi State, then followed that up with losing a 17-0 lead against Kentucky. Said blown leads do not say a lot about Beamer’s halftime speeches! The Gamecocks have now lost 10 of their last 11 conference games, including a game they were winning last year, 30-3 at the half at Texas &M.
South Carolina’s remaining conference games:
Saturday at Florida
Tennesseee
at Oklahoma
Texas A&M
at Arkansas
Georgia
We like Shane Beamer and are glad he has a healthy buyout. His chances of surviving as head man are only slightly better than Marie Antoinette retaining her head.
