On the road to Tallahassee

The Odyssey will be reporting from the hotbed of one of college football’s most intense rivalries:  Florida-Florida State.  Cannot wait!

FFF and I will be taking off this morning from Disney World and watch the Michigan-OSU game at a fun sports bar in Gainesville.  Then, we, amidst many Gator fans will make the 2 hour trek to Florida’s capital city for the tilt.  Please see comment section tomorrow.

Meanwhile, we salute the boat rowers of Western Michigan for their undefeated season!

ESPN’s talking heads are “playoff obsessed” to the point of nausea during the regular season. To drive this point home, I love rivalry Saturday as the first Saturday among equals. We were entranced at an Irish Pub on University Avenue in Gainesville. The intensity and amazing endings of the first tranche of games leaped off the TV screens. 24 point underdog Kentucky and slight underdog Georgia Tech both mounted comebacks resulting in last-minute wins over their arch rivals…All this was prelude to the Ohio State-Michigan double overtime nailbiter. Too amazing!

I do wonder if the Georgia faithful are having buyer’s remorse over the hire of Kirby Smart. To be up at home, 27-14, against Tech and not be able to finish, coupled with an earlier loss to Vandy, will have some Bulldog fans wondering.

The crowd atmosphere for the nighttime “Sunshine Showdown” was epic even if the game lacked drama in the 4th quarter. I really liked how the two bands played on the field, simultaneously, before the game. Kudos to the Seminole seniors: they have one feat that previous decades of excellent FSU teams could never achieve: A perfect 8-0 mark against their two archrivals, Florida and Miami. Well done!

This capped off a very good day for FSU as LSU’s permanent hiring of Ed Orgeron, earlier in the day, dispelled any notion to the truth of Jimbo Fisher to LSU. I never understood why the media talking heads thought Fisher would take the job. Seemed like a lateral move to the Odyssey.

As we passed the historic Capitol building, we did wonder about why Florida has its capitol in a corner of the state that makes geographic sense to Pensacola but few other cities.

Last, we wondered if Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon was still alive. It has been 55+ years since his hit song, “Tallahassee Lassie.” Boom Boom was definitely not the reincarnation of Frank Sinatra.

  2. Believe it or not, Tallahassee is half way between Jacksonville and Pensacola. There must not have been much else in Florida to the south in those days, so it seems to make sense. Who would have known that some day there would be Disney World, which would be the logical capitol of the state today.

  3. Thanks guys, I just about lost it lokinog for this.

  4. I’m not easily imsprseed but you’ve done it with that posting.

  5. Thanks for This Post

  6. I have been browsing on-line more than three hours lately, but I never found any
interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful
worth sufficient for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers
made excellent content material as you probably did, the web will probably be much
    more helpful than ever before.
